Stray privacy policy
Stray is a voice-first personal AI assistant operated by Colin Parsons / Robot Yoga (contact: robot.yoga/contact). This page describes what Stray collects, how it uses that information, and your choices. Stray is currently in private beta; data practices may evolve before public launch.
What we collect
- Audio recordings you capture in the Stray iPhone or Apple Watch app, sent to our backend for transcription and response.
- Transcripts and text derived from those recordings.
- Location (latitude/longitude) attached to recordings when you have location permission enabled, used to provide context-aware answers like directions and nearby search.
- Device metadata: app version, OS version, push notification token, time of use.
- Account identifiers: your Sign in with Apple or Google email/UID, used to associate sessions and prevent abuse.
How we use it
- To transcribe audio (via OpenAI Whisper or Google Speech), generate replies (via Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and OpenAI GPT models), and synthesize spoken responses (via Google Chirp TTS or Gemini TTS).
- To deliver push notifications via Apple Push Notification Service.
- To debug and improve the product. Aggregated, non-identifying metrics may be reviewed by the operator.
How we store it
Audio blobs, transcripts, and event metadata are stored in a private ledger database (Google Cloud SQL) with audio files in Google Cloud Storage. Records are kept under your account's user id — pseudonymous, not anonymized, since recordings and transcripts naturally contain names, places, and your voice. Access is restricted to the operator. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest on Google Cloud infrastructure.
Who else sees it
Stray sends content to the AI providers listed above (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI) strictly to fulfill your requests. These providers process data under their own privacy policies and, per current contracts, do not retain content for model training. Stray does not sell or share your data with advertisers or any other third parties.
Your choices
- You can stop recording at any time from the app; recordings are only captured while you hold or activate the mic.
- You can deny or revoke microphone, location, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can request deletion of all account-linked data via the contact form at robot.yoga/contact. Deletion is a manual process today; we will confirm with you when it is complete.
Children
The Stray beta is for adults — you must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used Stray, please contact us so we can remove their data.
Changes
If we materially change how Stray handles your data, we will update this page and, when practical, notify active users in-app or by email.
